Position:   Registered Nurse- Surgical Unit 
Type:        Full-Time (5) positions
Location:  AVDHA-Valley Regional Hospital

Working within your full scope of practice the Surgical Registered Nurse will be responsible to the Nurse Manager, Surgery, for providing skilled nursing care of acutely ill surgical patients in accordance with the standards of the Nursing Program, and Mission, Vision and Values of Annapolis Valley District Health Authority. Position to commence as soon as a suitable candidate is found.

Salary and Benefits as per current N.S.N.U Collective Agreement.

The successful candidate will join a diverse and progressive team of nurses, physicians and other allied professionals providing quality healthcare in Annapolis Valley Health.

Qualifications:

• Registered in the Province of Nova Scotia;
• Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support;
• Recent and relevant experience in caring for surgical patients in a comparable acute care setting.
• Experience in performing the following Shared Competencies:
  • Chest tubes, central lines, TPN, ECG 12 lead, IV therapy/medication and monitoring, O2 saturation
• Demonstrated abilities in the following areas:
  • Critical thinking/problem-solving
  • Independent practice
  • Team building
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Patient/family emotional support.
• Available to work all shifts.
• Travel to other sites may be required
• Demonstrated good attendance in current and past employment.
• Exemplary work history as demonstrated in current and past employment.
• Physical capabilities to perform the duties of the position.

Preference:

• Baccalaureate degree in Nursing and/or relevant post graduate education.
