Working within your full scope of practice the Surgical Staff Nurse will be responsible to the Nurse Manager of the Surgical Unit for providing skilled nursing care of acutely ill surgical patients in accordance with the standards of the Nursing Program, and Mission, Vision and Values of the organization. Positions to commence as soon as suitable candidates are found. Salary and Benefits as per current N.S.N.U Collective Agreement.
The successful candidate will join a diverse and progressive team of nurses, physicians and other allied professionals providing quality healthcare in Annapolis Valley Health.
Qualifications:
- Registered in the Province of Nova Scotia.
- Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support.
- Recent and relevant experience in caring for surgical patients in a comparable acute care setting.
- Experience in performing the following Shared Competencies:
- chest tubes, central lines, TPN, ECG 12 lead, IV therapy/medication and monitoring O2 saturation.
- Self motivated.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Skillful in applying the nursing process in patient care.
- Ability to promote/maintain good interpersonal relations in dealing with patients, families, visitors and co-workers.
- Demonstrates planning, organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate therapeutically through patient education.
- Demonstrated good attendance in current and past employment.
- Exemplary work history as demonstrated in current and past employment.
- Physical capabilities to perform the duties of the position.
