Responsibilities:
The Graduate Nurse (GN) is accountable to function within her/his level of competence.
The GN utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking and problem solving skills to provide holistic care to individuals, families, groups, communities and populations across the life span.
The GN is responsible for the overall coordination and direction of nursing care. The GN has the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to provide competent, evidenced based nursing practice. The GN is accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the plan of care to achieve patient/client outcomes.
The GN contributes to the efficient and effective functioning of the unit.
The GN accepts responsibility for maintaining and continually enhancing competencies through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality activities. The GN practices according to the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Graduate Nurses, the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia Standards of Nursing Practice, specialty standards as applicable and the policies and procedures of the Capital District Health Authority. The GN is responsible and accountable for his/her nursing practice and conduct as defined by the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia and for ensuring that his/her registration is current and valid.
Qualifications:
*Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and eligible for registration in Nova Scotia
Hours of Work:
Permanent Full-Time, 75 hours bi-weekly

Capital Health will be providing permanent full-time positions to 2008 graduate nurses. Bursaries will be offered consistent with the program offered by the Province of Nova Scotia through the Provincial Nursing Strategy. Applicants will be required to provide two written references*.
The Nurse Recruiter will be in contact regarding interviews throughout the months of June and July, 2008. Successful applicants will be notified of the specific area in which you will be placed prior to beginning employment. Assignments will depend on Capital Health's needs at the time you will be commencing employment. Every effort will be made to appoint you to a unit of your preference, if possible.
This is a Bargaining unit position. Preference is given to bargaining unit employees for unionized positions.
