Medical Laboratory Technologist I
Temporary Full Time (1.0 FTE) until May 2009
Cytogenetics Lab, Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, Operations & Support Services
Position Summary: Reporting to the Section Manager, the MLT I is responsible for the detailed laboratory and microscopy work that may include, but is not limited to:
- Specimen accessioning and patient data entry into database
- Cytogenetic specimen set up, culture and harvest
- Slide preparation and staining
- Chromosome analyses and karyotyping using semi-automated system
- Specimen preparation for and conduct of FISH analyses using semi-automated system
- QA/QC procedures and documentation
- Equipment troubleshooting and maintenance
- Routine laboratory housekeeping/organization
- Practice in accordance with current safety legislation and CSMLS/NSCMLT code of conduct
Shifts: 7.5 hour shifts; Monday to Friday days, with weekend rotation
Qualifications:
- Graduate from a recognized Clinical Genetics training program required
or - Subject RT in Cytogenetics with previous Cytogenetic laboratory experience required
and - Licensed, or eligible for licensing, with the Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technology (NSCMLT) required.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated effective problem solving, organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in independently and in a collaborative team environment.
- Demonstrated ongoing commitment to technical competency and professional development.
Salary: $23.3686 - $28.4524/Hour
