Register.com's new Halifax office is seeking talented individuals to fill the role of Network Engineer. This position will be responsible for architectural design, installation, configuration and maintenance of network infrastructure for Register.com production, staging and test environments. Additional responsibilities will include systems and applications design, installation, configuration and maintenance.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Problem diagnosis and solving of issues in Network, Systems and Application environments.
- Install and configure network and security devices according to best practices and Register.com standards
- Identify, recommend and plan needed network infrastructure upgrades, expansions or additions
- Install and configure operating systems and software products according to Register.com standards.
- Perform general systems maintenance tasks such as adding users, managing disk space usage, changing passwords, and applying patches.
- Work closely with other systems/network administrators and engineers to meet team goals, and improve processes and practices.
- Physical installation of servers and network equipment. Rack-mount, label, and inventory servers at Register.com offices and datacenter installations.
- Define architectural standards and document them.
- Participate in 24/7 on-call Systems Engineering rotation.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or related field. 5+ years experience in network and systems engineering in a mission-critical production environment required. Extensive experience with Cisco and HP switched and routed network environments, F5 BigIP and Foundry load balancing products (or equivalent), Apache, JBoss, Tomcat, MySQL, Web Servers NFS, SSL, DNS and common protocols required. Extensive working knowledge of IPv4 and IPv6 protocols, OSPF and BGP routing protocols required. Knowledge of standard and extended access-list and NAT required. Experience with configuring, troubleshooting and maintaining VPN connections to a variety of internal and external sites, clustering and high availability technologies, DDoS mitigation and competency in implementing and maintaining currently accepted best practices in network and systems security a must. Extensive experience with the Linux operation system, script programming in Perl, Shell and/or other languages, VMware ESX Server deployment, networking, conversion and troubleshooting as well as experience building, installing and configuring common open source packages and operating system patches required.
