Electrical Engineer

Job Summary:

You will work within the maintenance department, operations and engineering personnel to oversee the maintenance of all electrical equipment Underground, Rock salt Mill, Evaporated Plant and Marine Terminal.  You will also provide comprehensive review and analysis of failure and preventive-maintenance activity and formulate continuously improving strategies for asset preservation to support consistent operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain an update of the electrical maintenance program and procedures
  • Work closely with reliability engineer to develop and implement a sustainable reliability program, focusing on short and long term issues
  • Ensure the monitor of work processes to achieve business objectives
  • Maintain volt distribution system to surface hosting equipment, and underground equipment, as well as surface and underground crushing and conveying equipment
  • Maintain PLC Logic Controllers in the underground, surface milling and fine salt plant
  • Maintain power supply and instrumentation for Fine Salt evaporation process and packaging equipment
  • Maintain the Underground communication system
  • Maintain a control/monitoring system for primary and secondary ventilation
  • Act as a Plant Fire chief, responsible for the maintenance of the property's fire suppression system both underground and on surface
  • Supervise unionized employees, and relief maintenance foreman or maintenance superintendent as required
  • Act as a technical resource for engineers and craft personnel
  • Train technical team members, technicians and craft personnel

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
  • Immediate eligibility for P.Eng. registration in province of Nova Scotia
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience
  • supervisory experience and contractors
  • Strong analysis skills
  • Well organized, and demonstrated leadership
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and decision-making skills
  • Capacity of maintaining a good working relationship with unionized employees
  • Ability to work alone as well as part of a team
