Controller
Irving Oil Marketing
Location: Saint John

The Controller responsible for Irving Oil Marketing (IOM) will have complete accountability for all specific Business Unit financial applications and the documentation, management and execution of all processes and internal controls that lead to timely, complete and accurate financial statements.                    

Specific accountabilities include:

  • Provide accurate financial information for future decisions through preparing and reviewing monthly financial statements.
  • Ensure that all systems and processes for their respective area of responsibility have adequate levels of internal controls to protect corporate assets and provide timely and accurate financial information.
  • Ensure IOM accounting teams are properly organized, structured and resourced. Duties will include responsibility for hiring, career management, leadership development and dismissal or career adjustment when performance warrants.
  • Ensure all accounting pronouncements relating to the CICA, FASB, and IFRS are understood and properly addressed in the financial records of the company, including notes to quarterly unaudited and annual audited financial statements. This duty is performed in collaboration with corporate level specialist resources who are completely versed in the relative accounting pronouncements.
  • Ensure all projects and/or change initiatives are properly staffed and resourced and that all new systems or processes are successfully implemented, complete with appropriate levels of internal control capable of providing timely and accurate financial reporting to stakeholders.
  • Ensure that their teams have the skills, capabilities, and band width to meet the changing needs of the organization.
  • Ensure products purchased match expenses and revenues and earnings are recorded properly through managing accruals by performing reconciliation of balance sheets and verifying integrity and accuracy.
  • Enhance productivity and improve group performance through providing human resource management support and guidance by offering assistance, providing feedback, implementing performance management, and performing employee reviews.
  • Increase efficiency and effectiveness of controller team through performing analysis on current processes and procedures and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Perform other duties as required to maintain and enhance departmental productivity.

Qualifications:

  • 4 year undergraduate degree in finance or accounting, CPA, CA, CMA, OR MBA designation.
  • Service as Controller of a comparable organization or large division.
  • Approximately 8 years experience in the finance profession with at least 5 years in a senior role.
  • Ability to develop teams which will effectively support the business.
  • Proven ability to work well with senior operating executives, stakeholders, financial institutions and partners.
  • Unquestionable business and personal integrity.
  • Demonstrated ability to think beyond the financial impact of key business decisions to see the overall strategic as well as operational implications.
  • Fluency in French would be an asset.
