In less than two years, thousands of our country's best and brightest will set their sights on Nova Scotia as we host the Halifax 2011 Canada Winter Games. More than 3,600 athletes, coaches and managers from across Canada, 400 media, 700 VIPs, 500 officials and thousands of visitors will head east for the two-week event. Featuring 20 sports and numerous cultural events and festivals, the Games will be the largest event in Halifax's history, and our first time hosting the Canada Winter Games.
Overview:
As a key member of the IT division team, the Sports Results/Timing/Scoring Lead will assess the overall needs at each venue for results required at Games time. This role will include planning, understanding the detailed requirements of this area, working with other divisional representatives to ensure all the needs are understood. This will be achieved by;
- Following project charters, as required, to effectively plan and coordinate the deliverables.
- Providing regular status reports and participating in monthly IT Division status meetings.
- Assessing the IT related needs for each National Sport Organization.
- Defining IT requirements for results integration with results system, web site and broadcasting.
- Providing services to the Main Results Center to receive and assess sport results.
- Supporting the results recording process at all venues.
- Ensuring venues are sufficiently equipped to enable the smooth recording of results.
- Ensuring appropriate scoreboards at each sport venue.
Qualifications:
Project management skills or relevant experience delivering projects related to result systems. Preference would be for those who have worked around large sport venues.
The Sports Results/Timing/Scoring Lead will interact with a wide variety of stakeholders, including both volunteers and staff; as a result, well-developed interpersonal and communication skills are essential. The Sport Result Lead must be flexible, attentive to detail and consultative.
The estimated time commitment for this role is approximately 4-10 hours per month during the planning & test event stages of the Games.
