The Database Administrator will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of database servers. Duties include: troubleshooting specific bugs and errors, performance tuning, data replication, backups, database capacity planning, and supporting development efforts.
Essential Functions
- Administration of production database tasks such as data security, data access, data integrity and reporting;
- Tracking and notification to management of database performance, capacity and usage;
- Database tuning and maintenance tasks, including file reorganization, index maintenance and database compression;
- Design, install, maintain & upgrade Microsoft SQL Clusters including OS, application, SAN & replication tools;
- Ensure database backup and recovery techniques are being applied and properly configured on production databases;
- Works closely with other data administrators, outside vendors, and application programmers to identify critical database concerns;
- Review, revision, revision control and release of application developer database code to test, staging and production databases;
- Ensure that data population and data access techniques are functioning properly;
- Administration and maintenance of server hardware, attached storage arrays and SAN storage infrastructure;
- Participates in projects as a production resource to infrastructure project managers or leaders;
- Provide support for the Corporate IT Service Desk in resolving problems and incidents;
- Organization of all database documentation and source code including file tables, views, indexes and objects;
- Provides backup to other Database Administration staff as needed;
- Provides management with weekly status, and monthly detailed graphs & reports outlining - utilization and performance;
- Assumes additional duties as requested or assigned.
Specific Accountabilities
- Monitoring of database jobs, replication services, backups, recovery and standby / disaster recovery server restore operations;
- Daily and weekly audits of server hardware, OS, application performance and storage infrastructure and capacity and backups;
- Write and revise stored procedures, table, view, index schema, jobs and DTS packages;
- Organize and maintain database code and schema repositories;
- Perform new database cluster installs, OS and SQL Server upgrades/patches and database maintenance;
- Maintain and monitor database replication, standby facility and data refresh jobs;
- Develop and maintain database operations documentation including security policies, monitoring procedures, performance tuning, hardware and software configuration and maintenance tasks;
- On call 24/7 emergency support, occasional late hour production pushes or maintenance and participation in 24/7/365 on call shift rotation;
Qualifications
- Must be a team player, able to work both independently and interact with IT management, team leads and other staff members;
- Excellent communication skills;
- B.S. in Computer Science or 6+ years relevant work experience;
- At least 4 years experience as a Database Administrator;
