Project Engineer

Our client has an immediate opening for a Junior Project Engineer in their operation in St. John's, Newfoundland.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Based in St. John's, NL, the Junior Project Engineer will play a vital role, offering technical support and project management to the Senior Project Engineer in the course of projects in the region.  The Junior Project Engineer will interact extensively both with our client’s project staff and their client staff. Key interfaces include project superintendents, safety co-ordinators, quality managers, mechanical superintendents, and customer project engineers and project managers.

Specific responsibilities include assistance with the following:

  • Preparing Cost Analyses & project cost controls
  • Project tendering & estimating
  • Preparing and reviewing Budgets
  • Coordinating client meetings and monthly billings
  • Scheduling project staff & equipment resources
  • Reviewing and negotiating Change Orders
  • Reviewing the Drawing Registries
  • Managing project deliverables
  • Preparing Expressions of Interest and Pre-Qualifications

The Junior Project Engineer will be a valued contributor to our client's operations on a full-time, year-round basis.  In addition to very intensive work during the summer months, the Junior Project Engineer will be asked to contribute to off-season business development and project estimating.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering including site experience with concrete structures (Hydro Development in particular), earthmoving, and grading.

The following additional qualifications are also considered assets for this position:

  • Familiarity with computerized scheduling.
  • Knowledge of Government Regulations in the areas of safety and hiring practices.
  • Experience with CAD.
  • Ability to communicate in English and French.

Skills & Attributes:

The incumbent must have good interpersonal skills in order to facilitate regular and effective interaction with our client's key accounts.  Specific experience working in the Mining industry and Hydro Developments would be very helpful in terms of understanding client needs and satisfying job requirements.
