Responsibilities:
The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking and problem solving skills to provide holistic care to individuals, families, groups, communities and populations across the life span. The RN for Primary Nursing is responsible for the provision of nursing care to assigned patients/families. An opportunity to work in home care may be an option. The RN is responsible for the overall coordination and direction of nursing care. The RN provides clinical leadership particularly in complex or unpredictable patient/client care settings. The RN has the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to provide competent, evidenced based nursing practice. The RN is accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the plan of care to achieve patient/client outcomes.
The RN supports the development of students and colleagues through acting as a preceptor and providing ongoing mentorship.

The RN contributes to the efficient and effective functioning of the unit, coordination of patient care and staffing.

The RN accepts responsibility for maintaining and continually enhancing competencies through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality activities. The RN practices according to the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses, the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia Standards of Nursing Practice, specialty standards as applicable and the policies and procedures of the Capital District Health Authority. The RN is responsible and accountable for his/her nursing practice and conduct as defined by the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia and for ensuring that his/her registration is current and valid.

Qualifications:
* Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current certification of registration in the province of NS
* Previous experience in a rural setting is an asset
* Previous experience in a gerentological nursing an asset
* Current ACLS certification or willingness to obtain would be an asset
* Excellent communication skills
* Demonstrates initiative, self-motivation and is a critical thinker
* Able to problem solve in a distracting fast paced environment

Hours of Work:
* Casual Relief Position
* 12 hour rotating shifts

Salary: RN-2 Staff Nurse:
$27.8296 - $32.5230 hourly
($33.6613 with 25 years service)

Closing Statement: This is a NSNU Bargaining Unit Position. Preference will be given to bargaining unit applicants for unionized positions.
