Vision
Health and safe workplaces in New Brunswick
Organization
The Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission (WHSCC) is a Crown Corporation dedicated to promoting a safe and healthy work environment and the provision of services to workplaces, employers and the injured workers of New Brunswick.
The WHSCC is an exclusive fund, entirely supported through assessments. All employers having three or more workers are obligated to obtain compensation coverage and pay assessments based on their payrolls. The Commission is administered by a Board of Directors consisting of the Chairperson of the Board of Directors, the President and CEO (non-voting), the Chairperson of the Appeals Tribunal (non-voting member), four persons representing workers, four persons representing employers, and one representative of the general public. Other than the President & CEO and the Chairperson of the Appeals Tribunal, members of the Board of Directors serve part-time.

The Commission’s mandate is to create an environment where workplaces view all accidents as being preventable;
to provide insurance and related services to the employer community; and to provide rehabilitation benefits, including compensation, medical, vocational, and counseling services to injured workers.
Assessments are affected by the level of activities in the province's workplaces, as are the resulting claims. There are also substantial assets that ensure the Commission will be able to provide the ongoing benefits promised to injured workers though a wage loss recovery insurance system. These funds are invested in the financial markets and investment returns are subject to the ups and downs of the market place.
