At Eastern Health, we believe in healthy people and healthy communities.
Eastern Health is the largest integrated health organization in Newfoundland and Labrador, serving a regional population of more than 290,000. The organization also offers unique provincial programs and services. We employ over 12,000 health care and support services professionals. Formed on April 1, 2005 from the merger of seven health care boards, Eastern Health offers the full continuum of health care services. The new health region extends from the St. John's region west to Port Blandford and includes all communities on the Avalon, Burin and Bonavista Peninsulas. There are more than 80 hospitals, health care centres, long-term care facilities and community care sites.
Eastern Health also plays a major role in the training of the next generation of health professionals and in conducting vital health research.
Eastern Health operates 7 acute care facilities (hospitals), 6 community health centres, 12 long-term care facilities, the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre and the L.A. Miller Rehabilitation Centre.
- There are a total of 2,692 beds - 1,696 long-term care, 987 acute care and 9 observation/holding beds.
- The organization has community-based offices in 30 communities throughout the region: Bay Roberts, Bell Island, Bonavista, Burin, Carbonear, Clarenville, Come by Chance, Ferryland, Grand Bank, Harbour Grace, Heart's Delight, Holyrood, Lethbridge, Mount Carmel, Mount Pearl, Norman's Cove, Old Perlican, Placentia, Portugal Cove, St. Lawrence, St. Bernard's, St. Bride's, St. John's, St. Joseph's, St. Mary's, Trepassey, Torbay, Trinity, Whitbourne, and Witless Bay.
