Our systems give value to spatial data and empower its customers with information that is meaningful.Integrity in business, recognition as experts, quality control, and dynamic customer relations are the distinguishing variables which ensure our ongoing success and that of our customers. CARIS was at the forefront of the movement toward computer-aided cartography and mapping since its founding in 1979 and is surging geomatics technology further with its open, flexible Internet and database-driven technologies. Today, CARIS offers a robust line of spatial information management software for customers across land and marine applications. Their product line enables customers to input, create and manage, and deliver consistently reliable spatial data information and products. CARIS takes an integrated team approach to software development. Software developers, engineers, marketeers, and customer service representatives work closely together in defining customer needs and sustaining customer satisfaction. In addition to its New Brunswick headquarters, CARIS also operates from a European subsidiary office in The Netherlands and an office in the United States. There are also more than 40 resellers bringing sales and support of CARIS brand software to more than 70 countries. In 2003, more than 70% of revenue is from exports with 34% from Europe. Celebrating it 25th year of operations in 2004, CARIS is still growing. It has just recently relocated to new, expanded corporate headquarters to accommodate an increase in new staff with room for further growth. Physical Workplace In 2003, CARIS added a major new building (115 Waggoners Lane) to its head office complex, a third addition to the campus-like setting. Inside the head office, an open-concept design provides an interactive team-oriented environment to encourage communication and idea sharing, while meeting rooms can be used as private workspaces as needed. Employees of all levels, junior to senior, are often seated side-by-side, organized by project and roles. Custom-designed, the facility features ten foot high windows across the entire frontage of the building through which employees can enjoy plenty of natural light and a peaceful view of Odell Park. The location also provides employees easy access to numerous stores and services and to the City's walking trail system. Work Atmosphere & Social Employees at CARIS enjoy business casual dress daily and can listen to music while they are working. There is also a company-subsidized social committee. The social committee organizes a variety of events throughout the year, including pizza and sub lunches; golf, chess and floor hockey tournaments; a winter carnival with sleigh rides, skiing and snowboarding, bowling, an ice sculpture contest; as well as an employee Christmas dinner and dance. Social committee also raises money for its activities through profits from the vending machine and a specialty coffee machine located in the main employee eating area, and from redemption of recycleables collected at CARIS and other seasonal fundraising initiatives such as ice cream sales, weekly pizza days. CARIS has a floor hockey rink onsite! Employees organize their own floor hockey games. The rink is also equipped with basketball nets. The space has also been used for rollerblading and soccer (football for those from outside of North America). Offsite, employees operate their own sports teams and activities including softball, volleyball and basketball. Community Involvement CARIS is a good corporate citizen supporting a variety of local charitable initiatives. Employees are encouraged to take part in the selection of charitable groups assisted by the company. One such charitable cause currently supported is the annual Hospathon campaign. Hospathon raises money for medical equipment, education, research, and special treatment programs for the Chalmers Regional Hospital. Support goes to the Fredericton Food Bank every year during the Christmas holidays through the collection of donated food items from its employees. Career Opportunities
